3/28/2023 0 Comments Splunk cloudThanks for taking the time to read this post. I need to understand if my bias against the service is warranted. The experience requesting and searching data from DDAA?Īnything else I should consider that is not included in my questions? What about the other self-serve capabilities? Is the self-serve application deployment process what Splunk claims it is? What about not having access to tune the environment to perform better? What did you gain, or lose by going to Splunk Cloud? I have highly tuned environment that provides balanced search and indexing performance. So I understand the relationship of the subsystems required to run the platform. I am also a very experienced Splunk administrator. I have a background in infrastructure, both compute and storage, security, DevOps, Linux and many flavors of Unix, among other things. I understand that things have changed since then, but my experience with the service tells me that we should avoid it. You had no idea about the overall health of your stack. You could only see the search head's information. The need to justify AND PROVE that your environment was not sized correctly for your needs, whether initial or ongoing, led to very unpleasant meetings.įeatures would be removed from admin access every time there was an upgrade, i.e.: the monitoring console would show less and less of the environment. The very long times to deploy applications, whether private or from Splunkbase. The constant need to open tickets for minor configuration changes, such as props or transforms that were not supported, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE SHOWN IN THE GUI. While Splunk Enterprise is an awesome product, the issues I experienced with the Splunk Cloud service were extremely frustrating for an enterprise class product. I was a user of very early versions of Splunk Cloud while working at another employer and experienced issues with the service. My company runs Splunk Enterprise on-premises and we are considering whether a move to Splunk Cloud is a good fit.
